The Young and the Restless viewers know that Devon Hamilton will do what it takes to honor his late father, Neil Winters, and carry on his legacy. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Devon’s portrayer, Bryton James.
Bryton James — Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Devon had it out with his cousin Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) over Nate’s duplicity in revealing Chancellor-Winters’s Initial Public Offering plans to an outside Chief Executive Officer. During the scenes, James gave an outstanding performance, showing off the range of Devon’s fury and emotions as the two family members hurled accusations at one another.
The actor revealed his on-screen alter ego’s anger through his body language, which was often stiff and tense, his tone of voice, which often verged on yelling, and his facial expressions, which ranged from frustrated to annoyed as Devon wanted the whole truth from Nate. He showed a plethora of emotions through the acting choices he made this week.
However, Bryton James truly shined when Nate wondered if Devon was making the business choices he made due to not wanting to let anybody else in after Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) died. While it would have been easy to shrug it off, Devon instantly went into fight or flight mode, and his choice was to fly. James showed just how on the nose Nate probably was through his pained facial expressions and the tears in his eyes after Devon left Nate’s penthouse. He looked absolutely broken, which conveyed that Devon really hasn’t fully moved forward from the suffering of losing Neil.
We also appreciated James’s showing Devon standing up for himself when he and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) talked about continuing with the IPO. He left absolutely no doubt that Devon is entirely against doing that now.
Congratulations Bryton James on an excellent performance. Bravo! We’re looking forward to many more of these wonderful moments that give more insight into Devon’s journey.
