So Long… Shauna? But Where’s Paul On The Young and the Restless?

Every soap goes through cast changes but soap fans don’t like it when characters simply disappear without explanation. Therefore, The Young and the Restless giving Shauna a write-out was welcome — not that viewers wanted to see her go, but it’s good that she just didn’t vanish as if she never existed.

Actress Camryn Hamm made an impression during her short stay in Genoa City, which began in March. After being introduced as a love interest for Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry), Shauna was befriended by Devon (Bryton James) and Hilary (Mishael Morgan).

When Devon and Hilary weren’t getting along, they remained united in wanting to give Shauna a better life and Hamm turned in some nice performances after Hilary died.

Devon viewed the young woman as a link to his life with the Hilary, which was cut tragically short.

Alas, Devon’s had trouble dealing with Hilary’s death and hasn’t been putting Shauna first. Cane (Daniel Goddard) informed Devon that Shauna didn’t feel safe with him anymore so she’d be going to Colorado to reunite with her parents.

It was a nice surprise to see Shauna share some farewell scenes with Devon, Charlie, and Cane. The door’s been left open for her return, and it’ll be nice if that happens.

But the question is if Y&R is going to give Shauna, a character who was around for less than a year, a nice sendoff — why can’t the top-rated drama do the same for other characters who’ve exited the canvas?

The last (for now) scene with Ashley (Eileen Davidson) showed the cosmetics creator sipping champagne on a Paris-bound flight. That’s a nice (for now) finale for Ash. (However, it was unfortunate that we didn’t get a farewell moment between Ashley and Victor, played by Eric Braeden.)

But what about other Genoa City stalwarts like Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) and Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John)? We know the latter has moved to be closer to his daughter, Lily (Christel Khalil), who’s been moved to another prison.

But Paul’s absence has been glaring! Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) is in the chief’s office and we have no idea why Paul’s not around.

Viewers know that Davidson is off-contract, but if he is being used less, why not have a scene in which Paul announces he has to work out of town on a big case? Show him telling Rey he has to be in charge until Paul gets back.

We know Shauna is living in Colorado with her parents, Summer (Hunter King) has a job in Dubai, and Ashley’s in Paris. Letting us know that Paul is somewhere, anywhere (!) will give viewers a sense of peace.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
