Sally Spectra made a heart-wrenching plea for Adam Newman to drop the ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’ act and admit he was only doing it for her benefit. Adam barely managed to push her away — for her own good.

The Young and the Restless Advice

Sally (Courtney Hope) resolved to quit her hard-won (well, by soap opera standards; she wasn’t handed anything by her parents, she had to earn it from her boyfriend…then from his family) job as CEO of Newman Media to prove that Adam (Mark Grossman) meant more to her. But then Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) stepped in.

Girl Power

Chloe told Sally that was a stupid idea. Why give up what she wanted so much for a guy who was treating her like crap? Even if Sally was right and this was all an act on Adam’s part, why suggest that his desires were more important than hers? Chloe has her own terrible history with Adam, but she also saw what loving him did to Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), and she doesn’t want her new friend Sally to go through the same thing.

Young and the Restless Talk Therapy

Soaps aren’t exactly the best place to find examples of successfully passing The Bechtel Test: Two women talking about a subject other than a man. And Sally and Chloe’s conversation didn’t exactly make the grade. They were still talking about a man…but they were also talking about Sally’s career. And how love was important. But if the man is pushing you away, why go chasing after him? Is this job what Sally wants?

Well, then, kick the guy to the curb and focus on proving that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) were right in giving her another shot. Look after yourself, and if Adam comes around later, that will just be a bonus. What a refreshing take! Kudos, Y&R!
