Rey Rosales is presumably dead on The Young and the Restless after a car crash with Victoria Newman Locke and Ashland Locke during a foggy evening. Rey had run back home to grab the hockey tickets he’d left in a different coat as he prepared to go with Chelsea Lawson and Connor Newman to a game.

The Young and the Restless Did Rey Wrong

For several weeks, Y&R had tension building between Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Plus, he’d been increasingly frustrated with Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) bonding over their family memories.

Why on earth would they spend the time setting up the storylines only to have Rey die in a wreck? It just doesn’t make much sense, and it feels like viewers wasted their time watching those scenes.

How It Could’ve Been

It would’ve been better if The Young and the Restless had Rey and Chelsea continue to get closer, and perhaps they might even have crossed the line. Who knows? Maybe Chelsea would’ve gotten pregnant, making Rey a father, finally, after all these years.

Then, either Rey could’ve left town to get his head on straight after Sharon learned of his infidelity. Or, he and Chelsea could’ve left together to raise their baby away from the sins of their pasts. Or, better yet, Rey and Chelsea could’ve set up house in Genoa City and raised their child together. He already had a great relationship with Connor, so there’s no reason why he wouldn’t have been a caring stepfather. The bonus would be it would finally give Chelsea a much-needed storyline and new direction.

It’s a shame to see the light go out on the Rosales family in this way. Vilasuso is an excellent actor and has had lots of daytime success. We hate to see him go, especially like this.
