The Young and the Restless has been on a kidnapping spree over the past couple of years, and boy, is it beyond time for it to end.

Key Takeaways

  • It’s been two years of kidnapping chaos.
  • Y&R currently has an on-screen and off-screen kidnapping storyline.
  • The CBS soap needs to turn the page and begin a new chapter.

The Kidnapping Overkill on Y&R

In 2023, Jordan (Colleen Zenk) kicked off what has become the Y&R kidnapping trend when she took Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) hostage with Claire’s (Hayley Erin) help. That situation also involved Victor (Eric Braeden), Nick (Joshua Morrow), and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) being thrown in the mix.

Since then, several storylines have revolved around kidnappings. It has become the go-to move for the CBS soap, prompting fans to declare that enough is enough.

“So the ‘Kidnap Show’ aka #YR has struck again. First, it’s all of the Newman fam (Jordan), then Sharon & Faith, then Sharon, then Sharon & Phyllis, then Noah & Sienna, then Dom & now Lily & her kids. They just can’t help themselves, can they? Stop kidnapping ppl!” wrote a fan on X.

Another fan expressed, “How many kidnappings has this been in the past 2 years #YR? What is this? Sharon, you get a kidnapping! Nikki, you get a kidnapping! Phyllis, you get a kidnapping! Characters we have known for 2 seconds, you get a kidnapping! Now, Dominic, you get a kidnapping! SERIOUSLY.”

This doesn’t even include the fact that Cane (Billy Flynn) essentially kidnapped half of Genoa City when he trapped them all in France last summer. Right now, Y&R has two major kidnapping storylines happening:

Mariah (Camryn Grimes) took Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark), kicking off a new story for Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway). However, it’s hard to care when someone gets taken hostage on the CBS soap every couple of weeks.

If the Dominic kidnapping wasn’t enough, Victor may or may not have kidnapped Lily (Christel Khalil) and her children, and Lily may or may not be on board with it to help Victor get Newman back from Cane (Billy Flynn) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

Seriously, so many kidnappings, we don’t even know if one is real or not. This is not good old-fashioned soapy goodness. It’s a predictable hot mess that fans are struggling to care about.

Here’s how the latest kidnappings will end. Mariah will be caught and sent to a mental health facility, while Dominic is safely returned to his parents. Lily and her kids will be safe, whether Cane gives in to Victor or not. When Khalil returns from maternity leave, Lily will have another issue with Cane.

It’s time for the CBS soap to change the page. Put the kidnappings in the rearview and find another way to torment the good people of Genoa City.
