The Young and the Restless fans are disappointed with the return of Matt Clark, as the storyline has left some viewers feeling confused and frustrated.

Key Takeaways

  • Y&R fans sound off on Matt Clark’s return.
  • The flashbacks are annoying.
  • This stunt casting is a major flop for the CBS soap.

Some Fans Feel Matt Clark Is A Miss

From the second Mitch (Roger Howarth) was revealed to be Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) nemesis, Matt Clark, Y&R fans have had thoughts. Some even wondered if Mitch really was Matt, which seems to have turned out to be true.

The recent turn of events involving Matt kidnapping Noah (Lucas Adams) and Sienna (Tamara Braun) has fans losing their minds over Matt’s return. It’s not in a good way either.

Telling a story through flashbacks is not the flex the powers that be think it is. One fan on X declared, “The flashback form of these scenes with Nick, Sharon, and Matt are unnecessary.”

Along with that, the Matt chaos is all over the place, with each day making fans feel like they’ve missed something major, but they didn’t. Several fans on X seemed to allude to the same thing and more as they shared their thoughts on the storyline.

“The Matt Clark story is an absolute mess. It’s all over the place, and it’s so contrived,” expressed the fan.

One fan on X shared, “This LA Matt Clark plot is terrible, and Thanksgiving is definitely not the time for it.”

“I’m pretty checked out of this Matt Clark story,” expressed a fan.

The past couple of years, the CBS soap has been doing stunt casting, like with the introduction of evil Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and the return of Ian (Ray Wise). Those ended up being juicy soap plots that kept fans engaged.

However, some fans think that casting Howarth in the role of Matt isn’t working as they’d hoped, and it’s not because of his talent at all.

A couple of fans brought that up on X as well, with one writing, “Stunt casting Colleen Zenk as Jordan worked because it was exciting to see her again, it gave Melody Thomas Scott good material, and it mostly made soap opera sense.”

“I love Jordan! Colleen did a phenomenal job portraying her, and it made Y&R interesting, and I also loved her and Ian working together! If they could only come back! This current storyline with Mitch/Matt is going nowhere so far!” insisted a different fan.

Here’s hoping that somehow the payoff of having Howarth on the show playing Matt Clark will turn out to be worth all the chaos and confusion fans are feeling right now.

What do you think about Matt Clark’s return? Is it a hit or miss?
