How dumb is Daniel Romalotti on The Young and the Restless? Oh, please, please, please let us count the ways. He knows that his mother is faking her death. He knows that his sister is determined to keep it a secret. And yet, when his phone rings, and he picks up, and there is no one on the other end, Daniel proceeds to assume that it’s his in-hiding mother…and then he spills her entire plan to…someone! Anyone! Everyone!

Did it ever cross Daniel’s mind that it might NOT be Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) on the phone? Just because they weren’t immediately saying anything, didn’t mean there were no other possibilities.
What if it was a telemarketer who’d just dropped their script? By the time they picked it up, they’d have gotten an earful. What if it was a wrong number? The caller was expecting a woman, so when a man picked up, it took them a moment to identify themselves. By that point, they’d have gotten an earful.

What if it was Lucy, calling her dad, and not answering right away because her phone cut out for a minute, all the way from the other side of the word?
What if it was Chance (Conner Floyd), and he got a text at the same moment, distracting him for just a minute? We bet Daniel’s aria would have certainly gotten his attention! And he’s smart enough to remain quiet and see what Daniel will say to fill up the dead air. It’s a pretty common cop interrogating technique.

What if it’s Leanna Love (Barbara Crampton), eager for another juicy about Genoa City? What if it’s Summer (Allison Lanier), who now knows exactly how loose her big brother’s lips are?
And, yeah, even if it’s Phyllis – so what? Now she knows her son is an idiot! There are no happy endings here!
