A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Reign Of Terror And Corporate Reshuffles

The author’s opinions on Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Offers HIS Take

Much like Cameron’s (Linden Ashby) reign of terror (see what the actor had to say about running across his real-life wife on set), Y&R sped through Jordan’s (Colleen Zenk) “Justice For Eve Campaign,” but it was preposterous, juvenile fun while it lasted. Between Zenk’s camping it up (not to mention her channeling Pamela Voorhees and John McClane), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) doing yeoman’s work, and the likes of Eric Braeden (Victor) and Amelia Heinle (Victoria) chewing the scenery, I was thoroughly entertained.

But, no sooner had the narrative focus shifted away from Aunt Jordan’s lake house than we were right back in the thick of never-ending corporate reshuffles. Now Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Chance (Conner Floyd) might be entering the world of big business? No thank-you!

Further Y&R Musings

* I’m all for resurrecting Eve Nicole in the personage of Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) — it’s a pretty tried and true soap trope — but doesn’t this tale smack of Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) long-ago introduction (see what Grimes said as she celebrated 25 years)?

* How apropos of Billy (Jason Thompson) to point out that the Newmans frequently find themselves embroiled in “irrational” scrapes “all the time.”

What do you think? Post a comment!

* Surely there was a better way for Jordan to render Cole unconscious than striking him in the back of the head with a hammer. And speaking of Cole, when, exactly, did he consume the poison that was threatening to do away with Victor and co.?

* When Nate (Sean Dominic) was regaling Billy with tales from inside the Newman trenches, why didn’t he mention the plethora of times he put his medical license on the line to help get the clan out of various scraps?
