A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Machinations, Duds & DOA

The author’s opinions of Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Ponders

Are we terming what Nate (Sean Dominic) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) got up to a full on “affair”? Because from what I saw the two were barely able to get in some elicit dusting before Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) came a calling. Not that it makes it right by any means. I’m just curious as to what you’d label that.

I’m equally curious to see whether or not Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Summer’s (Allison Lanier) union will manage to survive Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) machinations. Thank goodness for the young marrieds’ quagmire and the utterly stunning excoriation that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) subjected Jack (Peter Bergman) to since the rest of this “Phyllis Faking Her Death” storyline has been a dud.

Well, I say that, but Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) rather pointed eulogy did have me tee heeing. But other than that…yea, it’s pretty much a plot that has been DOA.

Further Y&R Musings

* Granted Aria is a darling, but wouldn’t it have been nice if Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa’s (Kait Fairbanks) return home and introducing Sharon (Sharon Case) to her granddaughter had actually been about them instead of Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sally (Courtney Hope)?

* How is it that Chance (Conner Floyd) could arrest Diane (Susan Walters) for Phyllis’s murder when it wasn’t actually the poisoning that killed her but the fire that consumed her ambulance — you know, if any of that had actually happened?

* I’ve seen the plethora of comments chiding Young and the Restless for the ridiculousness that was Phyllis attending her own memorial service disguised in nothing but a wig and glasses and not a single person catching sight of her, so I won’t harp on that. Just know that I saw it and that I agree with you wholeheartedly.

* You know, I’m actually starting to feel for Tucker (Trevor St. John). And that’s not to say I think Ashley should actually marry the guy, but couldn’t she cut him a modicum of slack? Also, does she really intend to punish him for Devon’s (Bryton James) declining to purchase McCall Unlimited?
