A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Dense, Contrived & Campy

The author’s opinions on Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Ponders The Stupidity

To quote Chance Chancellor (Connor Floyd), “There’s too many holes, damnit!”

And in that same vein, here’s a telling take shared by one of my Soap Hub colleagues: “Christine of ALL people should believe Phyllis would do this. I can’t believe this. Sigh. I can”

It’s more than a little irritating — not to mention wholly insulting — that this entire “Get Diane” storyline hinges entirely on a plethora of characters acting so dense as to stretch credulity and plot points so contrived that they amount to nothing more than [I’m assuming] unintentional hilarity.

I mean, here I’m expected to believe that even after Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) cleaned up that crime scene * oops, I mean hotel room * and it was, in turn, given at least a once over by a [I’m assuming] qualified and competent housekeeper, Jack (Peter Bergman) was still able to find a fast number of hairs that could be traced back to their source? Really?!

Thank goodness Chance has at least rumbled that Summer (Allison Lanier) knows a heck of a lot more than she’s willing to admit to. It’s certainly more than the lady’s own husband has been able to muster.

What do you think? Post a comment!

[And I get that Kyle (Michael Mealor) has never been the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer, but come on man! Look at what’s right in front of you! Summer’s not exactly Davis or Hepburn.]

Speaking of contrivances, it’s apparently going to take Nicholas’s (Joshua Morrow) discerning eye to notice an unsettling stain on that bottle of champagne that Sharon (Sharon Case) was gifted and even then neither one is apparently going to make an immediate connection between the aforementioned gift and big, bad Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby) whom Sharon once brained with — that’s right — a bottle of champagne? Really?!

Further Y&R Musings

* Dotting grandpa Tucker (Trevor St. John) is the just the best Tucker. Mmmm…make that the second best Tucker. I enjoy needling, pot stirrer Tucker just a hair more.

* I’m not sure what the consensus is amongst you all, but I’m rather liking mercenary Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic).
