As previously reported, executive producer Mal Young is now taking on the role of head writer at The Young and the Restless (YR).
Young brings an impressive pedigree to Y&R, having been at the helm of several successful British serials. We’re hoping that he addresses the following story issues/characters that have had fans scratching their heads.
Jack, Be Quick
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) is usually four steps ahead of everyone in Genoa City (except maybe Victor), but that’s not how he’s being written. He telegraphs his plans and reveals his emotions way too often.
It’d be more in-character for Jack to pretend to forgive Billy and Phyllis for their affair while scheming against them. Jack’s attempt to bring down Brash & Sassy by using Fenmore’s was so transparent that Lauren saw through it immediately.
And why is he giving Nikki another chance? She dumped him right after their last wedding to chase after Victor.
Business 101
Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) resume includes executive jobs (including some high-level) at Jabot, Chancellor, the GCAC, and Fenmore’s so his current financial predicament doesn’t make much sense. He should have plenty of savings. If not, Lily could always call her super-rich brother Devon for a loan.
Big Galas
Soaps are famous for big galas when characters are dressed up and stories explode, but the MS fundraiser that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) performed at was mostly anti-climatic.
It should have been Victor’s undying love that gave her the strength to tickle the ivories — not a few encouraging words from a day player.
Nick And Sharon
Supercouple Victor and Nikki were separated for most of the ’90s, but each time they were in the same room, viewers yearned for the pair to reunite. We should be feeling the same way about Nick and Sharon. His jealousy over Scott was great to see as it also introduced conflict into his relationship with Chelsea.
Soaps are about enduring romances, but perhaps Sharon marrying both Adam and Victor has made a Nick/Sharon reunion impossible. Their fans hope that’s not the (Sharon) case.
The Hilary Hour
The tabloid online talk show is a great vehicle for Hilary (Mishael Morgan) to negotiate alliances and expose secrets. But it’s been said her show is nationally syndicated. Therefore, it makes no sense that she’s constantly reporting on the Newmans and Abbotts.
A show like hers would be reporting on the Kardashians, other reality TV stars, and Brad and Angelina (who aren’t getting back together, by the way) — not a fling that Victoria (who’s single) had with Ben (who’s also single).
