On The Young and the Restless, Cane Ashby is on a road to redemption. Unfortunately, he’s not quite out of danger since Victor has it out for him. The Newman patriarch’s latest scheme has Matt Clark trying to buddy up with Cane, who is the new CEO of Chancellor. This development means Billy Flynn gets to share scenes with Roger Howarth. Flynn recently mentioned a full-circle connection to the Daytime Emmy-winning actor who starred on One Life to Live, As the World Turns, and General Hospital before joining Y&R.

Key Takeaways

  • Cane remains suspicious of Matt’s attempts at friendship.
  • Matt struggles with the deception behind Victor’s plan.
  • Billy Flynn shared a surprising full-circle connection to Roger Howarth.

Matt and Cane’s Rocky Road to Friendship

So far, Matt (Roger Howarth, who made Matt Clark fear himself) has reached out to Cane. And Cane’s suspicious. He doesn’t trust what Matt is selling him, especially since it seems to be coming from a connection that leads back to the Newmans.

It’s definitely not a way to endear Matt to Cane. In fact, the Chancellor CEO doesn’t believe Matt’s fanboy act at all. He has asked the stranger to get in touch with him when he can be honest.

This is a wise move since Victor wants Matt to get close to Cane to keep tabs on him and probably let him know when Cane is vulnerable to an attack. However, this Matt Clark 2.0 version is struggling with having to lie and deceive. He’s wrestling with his conscience.

Billy Flynn Was Once Compared to Roger Howarth

In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Billy Flynn noted that Cane is finally coming into his own. As an actor, he feels that way as well. “I feel like I’m starting to peel back the onion a bit more,” he revealed.

He also explained his full-circle connection to Howarth. Early in his career, he was actually compared to the GH Alum. This occurred around the start of his time on Days of our Lives, where Flynn played Chad DiMera. The casting director, Marni Saitta, recognized something similar in the two actors.

“I remember her saying to me, ‘You remind me of this guy Roger from General Hospital [where Howarth was playing Franco Baldwin],'” Flynn said. “I don’t think she knew Roger personally; she was just a fan of his work.”

At that time, Flynn wasn’t familiar with Howarth or his work. But the two went on to become friends. Now, they get to work together, which Flynn says is “really cool.”
