Sometimes it seems that Hilary is on The Young and the Restless (YR) as pure comic relief. Sure, she’s a liar, a schemer, and a manipulative over achiever, but she’s also funny as heck.
Yes, we did have a story where she remained in a coma for months while actress Mishael Morgan was on maternity leave, so yes, drama. But, she got there via a fall on her honeymoon and was revived via a miracle drug by quirky (read: almost comical) doctor Simon Neville.
Now, Hilary feels that biological clock ticking and is desperate to have a baby, but is yet to become pregnant. Her first insemination via a sperm donor didn’t work. Her second try doing it the old-fashioned way resulted in conception but not implantation (the definition of a chemical pregnancy).
Her third insemination try using Devon’s sample? Well, we just don’t know yet, but so far Hilary hasn’t had much luck.
Soap Hub asked if this might turn into a story about infertility–or at least fertility problems, which would add some depth to Hilary and explore the pain of such a diagnosis. Almost 6,000 of you weighed in.
Yes, say 86% of you who can see the writing on the wall. This isn’t about watching Hilary and Devon go through a pregnancy together and eventually realizing they’re still in love and reuniting.
You think this is about Hilary and Devon instead going through a fertility journey that will either bring them together in the end or rip them apart even further, which happens to many couples when their dream of a family is harder to achieve than they thought.
However, 14% of you don’t see that happening at all. You think this will be more comic fodder for Hilary rather than serious drama. But, perhaps it can be both. Perhaps it can be a fertility journey filled with heartache and happiness, with signature Hilary as its core.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
