Billy Abbott knows he’s The Young and the Restless screw-up. In point of fact, he takes pride in it. Remember the whole I Chew Gum So Now I am Evil Period? And the gambling? And the cheating on Victoria Newman? And the business failures? Yeah, if that was our past, we’d have a tough time sleeping, too.

Nonetheless, Billy (Jason Thompson) has convinced himself that he’s all better now. He has Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) for copious couch sex. He has a job he can pretend to do in between having copious couch sex. And because he pulled the plug on his vague revenge plot against Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), Billy can pretend that he would have outsmarted – he just didn’t even need to bother. Has he pulled himself together for good? What almost 3,000 viewers had to say:

Are you kidding, 42% of you chortle? The reason Billy can’t sleep is because he knows the minute he stops doing something – anything – he’ll be forced to face all of his obvious life’s failures. He’s running as fast as he can so that he doesn’t have to look back. And if he thinks that’s what recovery looks like, then he’s fooling himself – but not us.

The Young and the Restless Balancing Act

Sure, Billy is fine now, with the fancy new job and Lily’s endless support. But if he ever loses one of them, 37% of the audience expects Billy to fall off the wagon as quickly as he thinks he climbed on it. He doesn’t have the tools to deal with setbacks like an adult. He’s still the spoiled little boy he always was.
