From the time Amanda first showed up on The Young and the Restless, she’s been trapped in two self-circulating stories: People being surprised by how much she looked like Hilary, and ping-ponging between Devon and Nate. Oh, yeah, and, periodically, Billy would ask for some legal advice.
Mishael Morgan gave her all in every scene, but they were starting to feel terribly repetitive… not to mention isolated from the rest of the cast.
We weren’t sure where her search for her biological parents’ story was headed. Especially when she met her birth mother, Naya (Ptosha Storey), and the woman basically didn’t want anything to do with her. End of relationship, end of the story.
But having Naya plead with Amanda to take on the case of her grandfather, Sutton (Jack Landron), accused of murdering Amanda and Hilary’s father almost 30 years ago got our attention. Especially since it seems to be connected to Newman Enterprises.
Let’s get real: The only way to break out of a minor storyline and become a part of the greater Genoa City scene is to somehow be connected to Victor (Eric Braeden). Amanda asked him about her father’s former employment with The Mustache’s company and rumors of bribing politicians.
Victor bristled, obfuscated, and pulled out his classic threat defense. You got that? Which means he knows something. Which means he’s hiding something. Awesome.
Amanda going up against Victor is the best thing that could happen to her character. It’ll get her out of the orbit of Billy (Jason Thompson), Devon (Bryton James), and Nate (Sean Dominic) – none of them are good enough for her – and allow her to do what she does best, which is shine in court.
Naya and Sutton believe that she can crack this case wide open, and so do we. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
