A Critic’s Review of Young and the Restless: Careful What You Wish For

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For a week, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of YR’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

In a classic example of, “be careful what you wish for,” Amanda (Mishael Morgan) has finally been offered the opportunity to be recognized by her biological family – but only if she agrees to represent her grandfather who stands accused of murdering her father!

First, and most importantly, we must point out that would be a total conflict of interest. Secondly, she’s not a criminal defense attorney. Thirdly, this is not at all what viewers want to be subjected to. Instead, we want to be knee-deep in the aftermath of that nasty quadrangle that the soap so ingeniously set up.

Sure, Amanda spouted off that she was majorly unimpressed with the fact that she’s now been cheated on by TWO men who went after the same woman, but that’s been about the long and the short of it.

What SHOULD be happening, is Miss Sinclair and Dr. Dawson discovering that they are both pregnant with Devon’s (Bryton James) child. And even that storyline could spill over into Abby’s (Melissa Ordway). Imagine if she were to learn that there were two women carrying Devon’s baby and one of them WASN’T Mariah (Camryn Grimes). That might even bring some actual drama and enjoyability into that much-derided plot.

But what is working, is the deliciously diabolic machinations of one Miss Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan). She’s stolen and poisoned and faked and monologued her way to what she’s sure will be sweet, sweet victory…but Adam (Mark Grossman) may have something to say about that. If he can avoid being arrested for a number of crimes that he didn’t commit, that is.

Further YR Musings

* It appears that Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) has Kyle’s (Michael Mealor) number. But as fun as it was to hear about his toying with the pretty boy, we readily admit that we’re counting down the days till he’s back on the scene and playing those mind games in person. The soap is onto a winner with this one!

* Faith may have had the week from hell, but actress Alyvia Alyn Lind has continually proven that she’s a heaven-sent performer. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
