A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Confrontations Galore

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of YR’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Is anyone else finding Victor (Eric Braeden) a bit one-note as of late? Has he engaged in a conversation, with anyone, in the past few weeks that hasn’t ended with him issuing some kind of threat or a grumble about making them pay or the implication that they’d rue the day? Then again, if you’re going to be one-note, that truly is a great note to hit!

Amanda (Mishael Morgan) approached him to discuss the situation concerning her father and grandfather and wound up getting chewed out for her trouble – though luckily she bit back and seemed to actually impress her formidable foe.

Then he railed at Ashland (Richard Burgi) for trying to one-up him on a business deal; an argument with Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) over Adam (Mark Grossman) and whether or not he’s a mad poisoner followed, as did a huge blowout with Victoria (Amelia Heinle) over her betraying Adam’s whereabouts to Rey.

Oh, and we also seem to remember him giving Michael (Christian Le Blanc) a hard time because he wasn’t being given the preferential treatment he’s so accustomed to.

Look, we want Victor to have a story…but isn’t there a better one out there than what’s being presented onscreen? Eric Braeden deserves the best, doesn’t he?

Further YR Musings

* What is with this show and special episodes featuring characters arguing and interacting with physical manifestations of their warped psyche?

* On a scale of one to “what took you so freakin’ long?!” — how surprised were you that Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) finally tired of Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and left her to her own devices?

* Reylynn Caster made a near-flawless debut in the role of Faith Newman, and though we’ll miss her predecessor – and mourn the fact that it wasn’t her interpretation of the character that got to finally tell mean girl Jordan to shove it – we have no doubt Miss Caster will soon make the role well and truly hers.

* Ashland Locke continues to be a hoot. Imagine letting the flip of a coin decide your company’s ultimate fate. And we’re pleased to see that the dapper villain has wasted no time in engineering phase one of Operation Bring Jabot To Its Knees.

Those high and mighty Abbotts need to be shaken down from their high and mighty horses – especially Jake (Peter Bergman). Exactly when did Smilin’ Jack morph into Auntie Pearl Clutcher?

This was a man who mentally abused his first wife, who slept with his father’s wife, who literally sold his wife like chattel in order to secure ownership of a company, who walked off and left a man to die of a heart attack, who manipulated his ailing father into cutting his wife out of his will…and the list goes on.

And even after all that, Jack still thinks he has any right to judge Sally (Courtney Hope)?

* Speaking of Sally, here’s hoping she comes after Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) with a vengeance. But first, she needs to march herself over to Ashland and inform him of the fact that his son might not actually be his son – and that he might be the son of Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

Has Phyllis, and Summer (Hunter King) for that matter, actually forgotten that Sally knows this juicy bit of info?

* The last time we checked, Chance was on a super-sensitive i.e. TOP SECRET mission with the FBI. So, do you think his superiors sanctioned that lovey-dovey text message he sent from his personal cell phone to Abby (Melissa Ordway)?

* When it comes to the clearly in the cards reunion between Devon (Bryton James) and Amanda (Mishael Morgan), are you for or against?

* At this point, does anyone actually feel sorry for Sharon (Sharon Chase)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
