When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Young and the Restless’s week that was.
According to The Great Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), you can’t force change – an opinion clearly held by this soap’s writing team. Victor Newman will be a proud hypocrite; Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) will always make bad situations worse, and worse situations terrible; Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) will always rush headlong into an untenable romantic relationship, and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Chase) will be forever drawn to Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) – he who elevates dark and brooding to an art form.
Now, the problem with The Young and the Restless’s stance, is that nothing will ever come as a surprise to the viewer. Sure, we may guffaw at some of the lines of dialogue – case in point, Victor’s ridiculously false claim that he’s never turned his back on his children – but we’re never bowled over by any of the plots.
We know that it’s only a matter of time before Victor emerges victorious; before Phyllis and Billy’s plot to expose Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) and Sally Spectra’s (Courtney Hope) villainy goes awry; before Victoria gets her heart broken – either by Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) succumbing to his cancer or by his outmaneuvering her; and before Sharon does something really, really stupid like cheat on her husband.
* Speaking of not being surprised…when, oh when, will we get a resolution to the “Who Killed Richard” arch? It’s gone on far too long, been played off-screen much too much, and whatever the outcome, we’re sure it will be a letdown. Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair) deserves so much better than this on The Young and the Restless.
* One of the few bright spots on this show, is the budding romance between Moses Winters (Jacob Aaron Gaines) and Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster). Let’s have a bit more of this please and thank you.
* Another bright ray of hope, is firecracker Imani Benedict (Leigh Ann Rose). Surely we can’t be the only ones who hope that she’ll take Amanda up on her offer to found a law firm together.
* Boy, The Young and the Restless is desperate to up the ante with the “Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) Is Missing” storyline, huh? They’ve even got Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) acting all kinds of suspicious.
