A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Beginnings and Endings

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For four days (the show was preempted on Friday) we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of YR’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) came to Genoa City, he saw a number of parties interested in acquiring his media company, and he caused a whole lot of upset. He also copped an eyeful of his wife having a mighty fierce argument with one Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). Surely this is a harbinger of a juicy story to come, yes?

And speaking of juicy stories, we can’t help but feel that the soap is sleeping on what could possibly be one of its best. We’re talking of course of the Devon/Elena/Nate/Amanda quadrangle.

In the course of just two episodes, Devon (Bryton James) dumped Elena (Brytni Sarpy) permanently and hard, ditto Nate (Sean Dominic), and then Amanda (Mishael Morgan) told Devon to kick rocks when he admitted to sleeping with Elena, TWICE, all in an effort to decide whether he really wanted her or Amanda.

So, what’s left for these characters to do? Soap Hub has previously offered up a number of speculative articles concerning multiple pregnancies and the like, but it doesn’t seem like YR is all that interested in continuing this gripping romance roundabout.

Further YR Musings

* Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) catfishing of Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sharon (Sharon Case) has been glorious, and it’s a shame that this tale seems to be nearing its end. But the question remains, is it Chelsea who’s behind Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) poisoning?

We’re still pretty certain she’s the one who scampered off with Sharon’s precious knickknacks, but would she actually attempt to KILL Rey just to punish her love rival and ensure that Adam takes the wrap for the crime – because lord knows that’s exactly where this particular storyline is headed?

* Are we alone in thinking that the catty, subtext oozing stand-off between Lily and Victoria at Crimson Lights was the highlight of the week?

* Rey collapses in a heap, Sharon remains standing, immobile, all the while screaming out his name, and COVID restricted filming hampers yet another drama-filled scene. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
