The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series goes to Jason Thompson, who plays Billy on The Young and the Restless. This was Thompson’s first Daytime Emmy win after six nominations and he was joined in his acceptance speech by his wife and two adorable kids.

He played out an intense and emotional story last year when Billy had a hard time once again dealing with the death of his daughter after the man who killed her returned to town.

Soap Hub congratulates Jason Thompson on taking home Daytime Emmy gold.

Daytime Emmy History

In 1972, the first daytime-themed Emmy Awards were handed out during the primetime ceremony, when The Doctors and General Hospital were nominated for Outstanding Achievement in a Daytime Drama — with The Doctors winning the first Best Show Daytime Emmy. Also at that same ceremony, Outstanding Achievement by an Individual in a Daytime Drama was awarded to Mary Fickett from All My Children.
