Soap Hub Wellness Wednesday: GH’s Evan Hofer Finds His Way

Evan Hofer, who plays Dex on General Hospital, knows that taking his shirt off is part of the daytime game. The actor recently sat down with Soap Hub to chat about having to bare some skin for our latest Wellness Wednesday column.

Evan Hofer: Wardrobe Malfunction

“It’s part of the job,” Hofer good-naturedly shares. “It’s funny, my mom and I have joked about this for years. I said that someday I’ll have my shirt off for a role.” Between the Metro Court rooftop swimming pool and recovering from gunshot wounds, it’s safe to say that Hofer’s prediction has come true. “The show gives me cool reasons [to be shirtless].”

How does the actor stay in shape? “At the beginning of the pandemic, when gyms were shutting down, my mom said to me, ‘Hey, back in the ’90s we had this thing called @bowflex,” Hofer says. “It turns out it was on Amazon and two days later, I had one.

A Busy Actor Finds Time

“Everyone has heard about it way too much from me, and I’m not even sponsored [by them],” Hofer chuckles. “It’s great. No matter what my work schedule is, I can use it. I can work out early in the morning if I have a later call [at GH], and if I have an early call, I can work out later.”

Hofer knows that diet is part of the game, but he reveals he does have one weakness — sugar. “I’ve tried to cut back when I know I’m going to be shirtless,” he reveals. “There are things people do [to look more cut] where they dehydrate, but I don’t want to do that. I want to keep my body healthy.”

Evan Hofer Offers Wise Words

What advice does Hofer have for folks wanting to get in shape — aside, of course, from recommending a Bowflex? “I’ll always try to sell a Bowflex,” he says with a smile. “But I say find what you enjoy doing that’s active so you’ll do it with consistency. If you don’t like it, you’re not going to do it.”

The good news is that there are a variety of activities people can explore as they’re searching for the one that’s right for them. “There are so many options,” he says. “Even if it’s ‘just’ walking. You’ll see results and feel better and healthier over time.”

Soap Hub recommends that you check with your physician before embarking on any new fitness and/or diet program.
