Characters on soaps tend to hop on and off planes with tremendous ease, often making cross-country trips during commercial breaks. Days of our Lives Nadia Bjorlin, who portrays Chloe Lane, says a bit more work goes into having a successful flight. She shared her travel tips in the latest installment of Soap Hub’s Travel Tuesday.
Nadia Bjorlin Talks Traveling
Like many daytime stars, the Los Angeles area, where Days of our Lives and the other three soap operas shoot, isn’t where Bjorlin lives. She flies into sunny southern California for work from another state, so she knows all about making her plane rides as efficient as possible. Find out her thoughts on flying the friendly skies.
Soap Hub: What makes for a stress-free flight?
Nadia Bjorlin: It does take trial and error. I only travel with a backpack now, which is so liberating. I find that you have to ask yourself some questions — where am I going? What do I really need to bring with me? I think most people do overpack. You can wear black, white, and navy to places you’re going once you arrive. You may only need one pair of jeans and one dress — things you can fold up in a backpack and reuse.
Soap Hub: Overpacking is so easy to do!
Nadia Bjorlin: You’d be surprised how little you need. I began finding that out [with frequent trips]. People tend to catastrophize and ask, ‘What if I need this?’ Of course, it depends on where you are going. When you’re traveling, you definitely want to put any medications you definitely will need in your carry-on.
Soap Hub: Do you read scripts digitally on your flights, or do you pack hard copies?
Nadia Bjorlin: I’m one of the last dinosaurs on the show. I have hard copies. I love paper, tangible paper. I highlight my scripts. Most people have moved on to iPads. I read my scripts on laptops, too, but I print them out. [Co-stars] will make fun of me, but guess whose script they pull out on set [when they need a refresher]? [Laughs] Mine.
Soap Hub: Do you have to plan to fly in extra early since flight cancellations can happen?
Nadia Bjorlin: I give myself a buffer, so I don’t take the last flight of the day when I travel for work. I want to be rested. I quickly realized that taking a red eye is a bad idea. If you do that, you show up tired. You have to find what works for you. I try not to pick the worst traffic time or the busiest times at the airport. Sometimes, it’s the luck of the draw.
Soap Hub: What tips do you have for once you land?
Nadia Bjorlin: I’ve learned to drink a lot of water. If I can, once I get off the plane, I go and do some [light] exercise to get my body moving. It gives you energy.
Bjorlin can be seen in the movie Nothing Is Impossible, set to stream on Pure Flix starting Thursday, October 6. You can check out the trailer below.
