Thomas Forrester has shown that he’s not going to give up until he wins Hope’s heart on The Bold and the Beautiful. While some see Thomas as diabolical, his portrayer, Matthew Atkinson, says one scene he played earlier this year in particular shows that Thomas isn’t a bad guy.
After Thomas was running out of options, he caught up with his son, Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri), at Vinny’s (Joe LoCicero) apartment. Thomas broke down after Douglas told his pop that he knew there was a good guy inside. “That was a huge turning point for Thomas,” Atkinson told TV Insider. “We saw that there was a thought process as to why Thomas is so obsessive.”
While he hasn’t exactly turned over a new leaf, viewers can more easily see where he’s coming from now that they know he cares about his family. “Yes, he will destroy pretty much anyone who gets in his way except anyone in his family,” the actor notes. “That’s the core of this character. His family will always keep him grounded.”
How does Atkinson explain how Thomas would intimidate his son into keeping quiet about baby Beth? “He never hit his son, but yes, he did get angry at him and scare him.” Douglas comforting his dad at this crucial time helped Thomas come to grips with himself.
“Thomas asked himself, ‘who am I now?’ That brought him back to reality. He’s still Thomas Forrester, who will do almost anything, but he does have a conscious. I’m very glad that [Henry and I] had that scene. It gave the audience a chance to see him in that moment.”
Of course, Thomas is still a threat to Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam’s (Scott Clifton) happiness. Just how far will he go to make Hope his partner in life? Stay tuned to find out. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
