Ivy Forrester, the family’s Aussie transplant and talented jeweler, is more than Electra’s aunt on The Bold and the Beautiful. Prior to her return to Forrester Creations to restart the jewelry line, she’d been an apprentice herself.
During that time, she’d fallen in love with Liam, his brother Wyatt, and had a dalliance with her cousin, Thomas. But it was her earnest desperation to win Liam back that left viewers wondering how far she’d go to be the woman in his life. Need a refresher on Ivy’s story and why she can’t help but desire a romance with Liam? Here’s what you need to know!
A New Forrester Arrives
When Ashleigh Brewer stepped into the role of Eric’s (John McCook) niece, she brought an element to B&B that had been missing. Australian and therefore removed from the drama her extended family is known for, Ivy had a refreshing innocence. She had a girl-next-door spunk to her that matched her colorful and playful outfits.
At the time, Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Kim Matula) weren’t together. He was adjusting to his former love’s romance with his brother Wyatt (Darin Brooks). Ivy was the breath of fresh air that brought fun back to his life. She spent her days working with Quinn (Rena Sofer) on the jewelry line and the rest of her time indulging in the cuteness bubbling up between her and Liam.
Their puppy love eventually morphed into a serious bond. But it was tested by Liam’s feelings for Hope, which had never gone away. Hope’s exit after a miscarriage allowed the couple to move forward without interference.
Tension In the Workplace
Without romantic drama, Ivy and Liam had to contend with a major change at Forrester. Rick (Jacob Young) had schemed his way into the CEO position. He had a chip on his shoulder from years of being overlooked. Rick was also very opinionated. When the idea of Ivy modeling was floated, he reminded her that she’d been hired to design jewelry. Anything that distracted him from that task wasn’t worth his attention.
Brusque to the point of rudeness, Rick’s tenure as CEO was marked by a toxic workplace. While most of his ire was directed toward his ex-wife, Caroline (Linsey Godfrey), and his brother, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye—who’s set to crossover on Beyond the Gates), Ivy didn’t escape unscathed. Rick’s tone with her and Caroline led Liam to deck him in the main office.
Refusing to put up with Rick anymore, Liam called in an ally to help him take Forrester Creations. Doing so put an expiration date on his relationship with Ivy because he asked his ex-wife, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), to partner with him on his plan. They eventually wrestled control of the company away from Rick against Eric’s wishes.
Ivy’s Messy Love Life
Though Ivy was briefly married to Liam so she wouldn’t get deported, his love for Steffy prevailed. The two split, which opened the door for the growing attraction between her and Wyatt to bloom. It did so at an unfortunate time for the Forresters as they reeled from Aly’s (Ashlyn Pearce) death. Ivy was sitting on proof that their cousin, Steffy, was inadvertently responsible for Aly’s demise. However, instead of telling the truth, Ivy tried to leverage it to make gains in her career at Forrester.
It worked for a time, and also brought her and Wyatt closer together before she and Steffy called a truce. However, that closeness and burying of the hatchet couldn’t withstand the wrecking ball that was Thomas (Pierson Fode). No strangers to kissing family members that aren’t blood-related, the B&B writers decided to test Ivy and Wyatt’s bond by leaning into the chemistry between her and her cousin.
Ivy cheating on Wyatt was exposed by Steffy. And, in classic soap fashion, the two got into it. However, in the process, Ivy wound up getting electrocuted. The literal shock to her system rekindled Ivy’s feelings for Liam. Trying to have her cake and eat it, too, Ivy didn’t break things off with Wyatt before seeing if Liam felt the same way she did. He did not, but the truth didn’t come out until Quinn forced her to be honest with Wyatt when he proposed.
Though her attempt to get back with Liam included adopting an American accent and style similar to Steffy’s, Ivy did accept that she would never be the love of Liam’s life. She went back to Australia and later put together Liam and Steffy’s destination wedding in her home country.
Always The Belle But Never The Soulmate
Ivy has yet to have a big romance on B&B that’s just her own. Her latest grasps at love were aimed toward Liam, but neither went anywhere. Her brief stop in town before agreeing to restart the jewelry line came with a kiss-filled lunch with her ex that was interrupted by a less-than-enthusiastic Steffy. And she was let down gently by Liam when she confessed her feelings to him after he survived a gunshot wound and a fake bout of brain cancer. He is interested in Hope, not her.
Will Ivy ever find love? Here’s hoping. Ashleigh Brewer has the chops to be a romantic lead. Ivy just needs the right love interest to seal the deal, preferably one that doesn’t already have an epic love or two in their life.
