Veteran soap scribe Patrick Mulcahey has announced a status change related to his position at The Bold and the Beautiful. The writer is regarded as one of the top dialogue writers ever to grace the medium.

Patrick Mulcahey: An Award-Winning Career

Mulcahey confirmed on his Twitter account that he was exiting the half-hour soap opera after a lengthy run, which earned him two Daytime Emmy awards.

The scribe earned his first Daytime Emmy for writing Guiding Light under late head writer Douglas Marland in 1982. He went on to win statuettes for scripting episodes of Santa Barbara, Guiding Light (a second time), and General Hospital, bringing the total number of Daytime Emmys he’s won to seven.

Mulcahey also won three Writers Guild of America Awards, two for his work on Santa Barbara and one for writing GH. The scribe’s first soap was short-lived Texas on NBC, which starred the late Beverlee McKinsey (ex-Iris). He also wrote for the ABC soap Loving, scripting the show’s two-hour pilot, which guest-starred the late Lloyd Bridges (ex-Johnny) and the late Geraldine Page (ex-Amelia).

Mulcahey has taken to social media to reflect on some of his favorite storylines. “Frank’s and Eleni’s wedding was one of the episodes I was most proud of writing,” Mulcahey posted. “Jill Phelps, the producer then, gave me a lot of leeway, and our set designer outdid himself with that beautiful Fifth Street square…”

At The Bold and the Beautiful, Mulcahey wrote many memorable scenes, including the 2005 one in which Stephanie (Susan Flannery) confessed to her family that she’d faked her heart attack. But, first, she let Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) know exactly what she thought of her.

“Oh, we know your defense,” Stephanie remarked. “Everything that you say at the moment is exactly what you mean. Well, I can’t live in a world where truth is served up like a fast food — hot one moment, and cold and greasy the next.”

Soap Hub joins the daytime community in thanking Mulcahey for all his fine work and wishing him well on his next endeavor. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
