Veteran soap star Sean Kanan recently traveled to Puerto Rico to shoot the movie Killing Field with Bruce Willis (Die Hard). Kanan’s role in the action movie required him to take on a whole new look! The actor is sporting a mohawk in the upcoming feature.

Killing Field reunites Kanan with director James Cullen Bressack (If Looks Could Kill), whom he’s worked with on other projects. “James and I have done about five films together,” Kanan tells Soap Hub. “He called me up and asked if I wanted to do this film with Bruce Willis.” Kanan’s response? “Hell, ya!”

The film’s logline is: “A man’s life on his farm is interrupted when a cop and a pair of dangerous criminals show up.”

Kanan says he grew up watching Willis‘ films from Die Hard to The Fifth Element to Bandits. “I just love him,” Kanan says. Following COVID safety protocols, Kanan went to Puerto Rico for the entire shoot. “It was great,” he enthuses. The actor says he enjoys collaborating with Bressack on films. “He always lets me ad-lib and we do some creating on the fly. My character Ed has this Texas accent, and he’s the comedic relief.”

Bressack had a request of Kanan in order to create his character’s look — he wanted him to wear a mohawk. At first, Kanan thought he was joking but then, after he realized Bressack was serious, he was all in. “I said to him, ‘If I get a mohawk, you’re throwing me some [more] lines. James is a terrific director. The film takes place in one general location and in one day. Chad Michael Murray [One Tree Hill] is also in it.”

Kanan says that he had to get his mohawk touched up every few days as his hair continued to grow. “As actors, we’re looking for ways to engage attention to our character,” he notes. “I had some good stuff to do. [Having a mohawk] was the icing on the cake.”

There were challenges in shooting the film. Primarily, Kanan says, it was the longest he’d ever been apart from his wife, Michele, who didn’t travel with her husband for this shoot.

“There were strict COVID protocols in place. We were tested every two days. We stayed in San Juan and filmed an hour away up in the mountains. The scenery was lush and great,” Kanan shares. “We shot at a farm house.” Soap Hub will update readers when the Killing Field has a premiere date.
