Last year, the Daytime Emmys returned to broadcast television by airing on CBS. Now, the eye network has announced that the kudos fest is not only returning this year, but the Daytime Emmys will also be broadcast on CBS for the next two years.
Where You Can Watch The 48th Annual Daytime Emmys
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air on Friday, June 25 on CBS. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and CBS announced in a joint statement that the Daytime Emmys will be seen on CBS on Friday, June 25 and the awards will also be available for streaming live and on-demand on Paramount+ (previously known as CBS All Access).
This year’s broadcast on CBS marks the 15th time the awards have been on CBS, more than any other network. The current CBS lineup during the daytime hours includes soap operas The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless; two game shows, Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right; and the talk show The Talk.
The Daytime Emmy Awards have honored the best in daytime TV programming since 1974. The first awards show was hosted by Barbara Walters (The View) and Peter Marshall (Hollywood Squares). Outstanding Actor and Actress statuettes went to Macdonald Carey (ex-Tom, Days of our Lives) and Elizabeth Hubbard (ex-Althea, The Doctors).
Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series went to Henry Slesar (The Edge of Night). Best Individual Director for a Daytime Drama went to H. Wesley Kenney (Days of our Lives). The Doctors took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series.
Last year’s winners included Heather Tom (Katie, BB) for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; Jason Thompson (Billy, YR) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series; Bradley Bell and his squad at BB won Outstanding Drama Series Writing; General Hospital’s directors won Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team; YR took home the gold for Outstanding Drama Series.
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Steve Ulrich are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer and director from ATI.
