Social media is a blessing and a curse. It allows people to communicate instantly on everything and anything that’s on their mind. The Bold and the Beautiful star Scott Clifton is aware of this as he posts thought-provoking comments on a variety of subjects. He’ll also talk about developments related to his on-screen persona, Liam.
It doesn’t matter if the post is positive or negative, Clifton’s known to interact with his followers. Why not just mute, block, or ignore the naysayers? The three-time Emmy-winning actor chooses to engage and hopefully reach people along the way.
“My brain is such that I really enjoy interacting,” Clifton recently told TV Insider. “I don’t shy away with disagreements. I intrinsically enjoy disagreements and making a rational case for what I believe. I debate all the time. My ethic with social media is that I’m not going to censor that I have controversial opinions. I’m going to speak controversially.”
Fans engage with Clifton online about a variety of topics, including one of the most contested debates in BB history — is Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) or Hope (Annika Noelle) the woman for Liam?
“In terms of the show and my opinions about it, my ethic there is if I’m going to be provocative then it’s not fair for me to ignore the response to that,” Clifton muses. “If I am going to say something that will cause a fan base to react, I owe it to them to respond. That may not necessarily be the best way to do it. I know some actors who don’t engage. That’s a totally legitimate way to approach social media.”
Recently, viewers were treated to classic re-airings of BB wedding episodes. Equal time was given to the two great loves of his life. In one episode, he wed Steffy and in the other, he and Hope tied the knot! Clifton’s Twitter handle is @CliftonsNotes. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
