Pierson Fode (Thomas, The Bold and the Beautiful) is set to star in the feature film, It’s Time. Based on the true story of Roy Lee “Chucky” Mullins and Brad Gaines, the movie focuses on the friendship formed between two young men after a tragic accident during a Vanderbilt v. Ole Miss football game in 1989.
Fode is set to play Brad, while Sedale Threatt Jr. (Roots, Hap and Leonard) will portray Chucky. Newcomer Bradford Gaines Jr., the son of Brad Gaines, has been cast as young Brad, and Timmy Richardson (Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong) as young Chucky.
On an October Saturday in the South in 1989, an Ole Miss defensive back — beloved by his teammates, adoptive family and friends — was paralyzed when making a hit on a running back from Vanderbilt. The incident forever changed their lives and the lives of all those who knew them.
Roy Lee “Chucky” Mullins and Brad Gaines, two men from different worlds, collided on the two-yard line that autumn afternoon. While Chucky lost the ability to move, Brad suffered an injury to his spirit. A man of faith, he had difficulty understanding why he’d been chosen to play this role. He set out to meet and to get to know Chucky. They became friends, and ultimately, brothers. It is a story of fate and faith, friendship and family, race and redemption, life’s hardships and love’s power.
Some 27 years later, Mitchell notes that “the raw emotions of this event remain on the surface for all those involved. The story still resonates and has become part of the fabric of Southern storytelling. I’m so thrilled to be working with such a talented group of young actors who bring layers to these characters that I didn’t know existed.”
It’s Time is currently being shot on location in Mississippi, and Fode has been flying back and forth so his presence on The Bold and the Beautiful will continue.
