The Bold and the Beautiful Tops Ratings For The First Time

In the words of Shemar Moore when he read Susan Lucci’s name as Outstanding Lead Actress at the 1999 Daytime Emmys — “the streak is over!” Last week, The Bold and the Beautiful came in 1st place in the weekly Nielsen ratings ending The Young and the Restless’ run as the top-ranked soap, which began back in 1988.

The Bold and the Beautiful Milestone

However, there’s a caveat — due to news preemptions last week related to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, YR was regularly interrupted. It remains to be seen if asterisks will be used in the history books, but according to the Nielsen ratings, BB came in first in overall viewer, as well all demographics, including women 18-34, women 18-49, women 25-54, Women 50+, women 12-17. Last summer, BB was the top soap in the coveted W18-49 demographic for five weeks.

What were the stories that were airing on soaps last week? The aftermath of Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) being exposed played out leading to a romantic (but not really legal) wedding ceremony between Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Annika Noelle). Shauna (Denise Richards) told Quinn (Rena Sofer) that she had info that could devastate Ridge (Thorsten Kaye).

Last Week On Other Soaps

On YR, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) confessed to Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) that she had cheated on her. Kyle (Michael Mealor) theorized to Summer (Hunter King) that her parents, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), are sleeping together again.

Meanwhile, on General Hospital, Michael (Chad Duell) and Sasha (Sofia Mattson) put their plans to get married on hold while Maxie (Kirsten Storms) reached a breaking point when it came to her job at Crimson. Also, Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry) learned that her son T.J. (Tajh Bellow) was being held hostage.

Over on Days of our Lives, Nicole (Arianne Zucker) grew suspicious that baby Mickey is actually Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) and Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) child. The folks in Salem got some good news. In the coveted W18-49 demographic, the show earned a 0.48 rating, its highest since June 17-21, 2019.

BB has been having local pre-emptions in Los Angeles for daily coronavirus updates. The show can also be seen on CBS.com and CBS All Access. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
