The Bold and the Beautiful Star Tanner Novlan On Working With Wife Kayla Ewell

The Bold and the Beautiful star Tanner Novlan (Finn) met his wife Kayla Ewell (ex-Caitlin) on the set of a music video. The two have worked together on other projects as well, but they haven’t shared many actual on-screen scenes together!

That’s even true of the duo’s latest joint venture. Both actors play roles on The CW series Roswell: New Mexico. He’s Gregory Manes. Ewell plays Nora Truman. However, viewers haven’t seen these two appear in the same scene as their storylines take place in different time periods.

“[Kayla’s] storylines are told in flashbacks,” Novlan explains to Soap Hub. “She plays Michael’s [Michael Vlamis] mother, but in the 1940s. They do a bunch of flashbacks.” Novlan’s character, Gregory, exists in the present day.

While it’d be nice to work together on The CW series, Novlan quips that the current scenario comes with a big benefit. “There’s always someone to watch our baby!” he chuckles.

Novlan’s proud of his actress/wife in all her work — including her role in an episode of Batwoman last season as Natalia Knight, AKA Nocturna. “She was pretty bad [expletive] in that,” Novlan shares. “She did a lot of her own stunts. She and Ruby Rose (who played the lead in the first season of Batwoman) had this amazing fight scene. I was like, ‘Go get it, girl!'”

The happy duo met on the set of the music video Maybe, performed by the Australian band Sick Puppies. And even on that project, they didn’t appear together! “That’s the infamous time stamp of our first meeting,” Novlan says with a smile. “It was back in 2009. The storylines in the music video alternated, so we shot [separately].” He adds with a mischievous grin, “But I got her phone number, so it worked out.”

Ewell has accompanied her husband to the BB studio and having a real-life spouse to match the back of his co-star Jacqueline MacInnes Wood’s (Steffy) head is helpful to make intimate scenes more realistic.

One thing that could have Novlan and Ewell definitely on the same show is if she were to reprise her role as Thomas‘s (Matthew Atkinson) love interest Caitlin. “How great would that be?” Novlan enthuses. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
