Scott Clifton knows what’s it’s like to be front and center on a soap courtesy of his role of Liam Spencer on The Bold And The Beautiful. And, now, he’s got something to tell viewers based on his years of experience in on-screen love triangles!
Recently on social media, a BB fan suggested (in a tweet that has since been deleted) that Clifton, a three-time Emmy-winner for his role as Liam, was not being supportive of one of his leading ladies because the fan felt he preferred another pairing.
Clifton firmly and eloquently posted his thoughts on the absurdity of this theory, noting he’s an actor for hire, he doesn’t throw his support for one co-star over another, and he urges fans take a kinder and more thoughtful tone when sharing their thoughts on social media. He also thanked his supporters for watching the show and being fans of his.
Check out the posts below to read Clifton’s thoughts on the matter including his last post on the subject in which he asks for “patience, forgiveness, honesty, and gratitude.” You can read all of Clifton’s tweets by following him on Twitter at @Cliftonsnotes. The Bold And The Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
Guys, we need to talk about this.
If it weren’t for fans, I literally wouldn’t be able to feed my family. I owe you all so much, and your passion drives mine. I’ll never stop being grateful.
But I don’t want to have to keep fielding these toxic and untrue accusations. THREAD: https://t.co/fFI5GY6VOD

So if you can’t stand Hope or Liam (or both), you feel sidelined during their “happy ending”.
But this is one liability that comes with being a fan of specific characters or couples rather than a fan of good drama in general: if your favorite character is unhappy, so are you.

Of course, that doesn’t mean passions won’t run high in the meantime. And this is where the line between reality and fiction begins to blur.
Yes, almost all fans recognize *intellectually* that I’m not Liam. But emotionally it’s harder to separate us. Everyone has biases.

This is not to say I don’t love working with certain actors or wish I got more screen time with others. But that’s just behind the scenes—totally independent of story. I always look forward to scenes with Thorsten, but I couldn’t care less if Ridge is hugging Liam or choking him.

We are in a relationship, you and me. It’s not the most conventional relationship, but we are important members of each other’s lives all the same. And relationships take work, patience, forgiveness, honesty, and gratitude. I promise to keep working at it, Dear Fan, if you will.
