Obba Babatunde is returning to The Bold and the Beautiful as Julius Avant tomorrow and now the actor also has a brand new role in the film Trigger, a movie on BETplus in which he plays a determined lawman.

Catching Up With Obba Babatunde

Trigger tells the story of Trey Mass (Jeremy Meeks), who is released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence. He visits his brother Collin (Wesley Jonathan) and sister-in-law Vanessa (Jordyn Woods). Despite Vanessa’s concerns, Collin lets Trey stay with them for one night, but that turns out to be a fatal decision after Trey accidentally kills a friend of Collin’s while trying to protect his brother.

Trey doesn’t want to go back to jail so, a hostage situation ensues. The man brought in to negotiate the crisis is Mike (Flex Alexander) — Collin and Trey’s older brother. In the clip shown in Babatundé’s Instagram post below, you can see that his character, Chief Keaton, is a no-nonsense individual, who wants to get the situation handled quickly and make sure that family drama doesn’t get in the way of freeing all the hostages.

“What intrigued me about the script is that you think you know all about the officers based on what they do,” Babatunde says in his Instagram post, “but I have a saying that says ‘your “do” is not necessarily your “who”‘. I don’t want to go give too much of the movie away, but the intrigue and the drama is well-worth seeing.”

This film reunites Babatunde and director Christopher Stokes, who worked together on the 2017 movie Til Death Do Us Part. “One of the great things about getting to work on a movie that Chris does is that you know you’re always going to be working with seasoned professionals,” Babatundé says, adding colleagues “are going to bring it: the heat, the drama, the passion, and, sometimes, the funny.

“People have often asked me, ‘Obba, what’s it like when you get a chance to work with Christ Stokes on a movie?'” Babatunde says. “One of the things I love working with Chris is that he comes to work knowing what he wants, but he also allows the piece to breathe because he operates from the standpoint of ‘it’s the best idea in the room that wins — not necessarily the person with the best idea.’ That makes for a collaborative effort and always the best time on set.

“So, remember, you hear it here first…this is a movie you won’t want to miss,” the Daytime Emmy-winner adds. Trigger is written by David Drinkwater, Marques Houston, Chris Stokes and Juanita Stokes for Footage Films. It’s available now on BETplus. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
