The Bold and the Beautiful Star Jacob Young Helps Fight Illiteracy

Jacob Young, who played Rick on The Bold and the Beautiful, is a devoted dad both onscreen and off. Now, the TV and real-life father is trying to help other kids with an important part of their education.

The Daytime Emmy-winning star is traveling to Maryland to the Elkton Public Library on Monday, January 27 to read to some children.

“I cannot tell you how incredibly proud I am to align with such a wonderful cause!” Young enthused on his Instagram account. “We are honored and excited to receive a generous donation from Discover Books.”

Young and Elkton’s Mayor Alt will be on hand for the event, and children who attend will receive a free book. The event is open to families with children of all ages.

Over the years, soaps have tackled the issue of illiteracy. The Young and the Restless — BB’s sister soap — addressed the issue with the character of Drucilla (Victoria Rowell). On As the World Turns, Nancy Hughes McCloskey (the late Helen Wagner) helped Kira (Lauryn Hill) learn to read.

Soap Star Rising

Young first burst onto the soap scene on BB in late 1997 when Ridge (now Thorsten Kaye) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) were marrying. He played the part for a few years and then left the show.

Young quickly rejoined daytime when he was cast as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital, winning a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actor for playing that role.

Next, Young moved to New York where he took on the role of JR Chandler on All My Children. After that show ended, Young return to where he started — back on BB as Rick. He played that part until 2018.

To explain Young’s absence from the canvas, Rick and wife Maya (Karla Mosley) split and he took a job at Forrester International. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
