Many soap fans know that some athletes are hooked on soaps. As they play games at night, they’ll tune into serials during the day. One soap opera star, Don Diamont of The Bold and the Beautiful, is a big fan of athletes!
Don Diamont: A Baseball Memory
The fan-favorite who plays Bill Spencer on BB (and is soon crossing over to The Young and the Restless) has met some all-time greats from the sports world including the late, great Hank Aaron, who died earlier this month on January 22. “Hard to articulate the feeling I had standing in the middle of these three LEGENDS!” Diamont posted on Instagram.
“My dear friend, the late @muhammadali, The Big O, Oscar Robertson (basketball player for the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Bucks), and the reason for this #TBT post, the late Henry ‘Hammering Hank’ Aaron. The Bonds career-homerun total from the steroid era notwithstanding, Hank Aaron is the greatest homerun hitter of all time.
“He still holds many MLB records, but what truly speaks to his greatness is his humanity and courage while amassing those records,” Diamont adds. “His Medal of Freedom, our highest civilian honor couldn’t be more well deserved! RIP Mr. Aaron!”
Diamont joined YR in 1985 as Brad Carlton, the Abbott gardener who ended up falling for and marrying Traci (Beth Maitland). One of his most memorable stories came in the late 1980s after his deranged ex-wife Lisa Mansfield (Lynn Harbaugh) kidnapped Brad and kept him in a cage.
Diamont played Brad until 2009 when Brad died while trying to save Noah Newman (Kevin Schmidt; Robert Adamson) from drowning in an icy lake. Diamont reprised the role later that same year when Brad’s daughter Colleen (Tammin Sursok) died, too.
Check out Diamont’s post below. In it, you can see a photo of not only Diamont and the trio of sports legends but also the actor’s prized possession of an autographed baseball from Aaron! Don’t miss his upcoming appearances when Bill crosses over to YR. Both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
