Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For one day we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Bold and the Beautiful’s week that was. (The other four days featured The Second Impeachment of Donald J. Trump, which is finally over so soaps can resume.)
This soap has finally, FINALLY conceived a male character worthy of exaltation. It’s been a long time in coming, but boy is he worth the wait. Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) is not only proving himself to be a one-woman man, but he’s stepping up in a way that no other male has done before on this show.
Not only is fully committing to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) – her assignation with Liam (Scott Clifton) be damned – but he’s committing himself to the life that’s growing inside her, whether he’s the biological father or not.
Men like Finn use to exist on soaps – just cast your minds back to likes of Another World’s Mac Cory and General Hospital’s Mac Scorpio – but their like have long been absent from B&B. Their men tend to waffle. Usually between a blond and a brunette. Yep, we’re talking about you Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), and you Thorne, and especially you Liam.
But not Finn. He understands that Steffy sees the error in her way. He agrees with her that the baby, despite its unsavory origins, is a blessing. And he interprets their current hardships as a mere bump along the road to their happily ever after. This man is a keeper; as is this characterization.
* Kudos to Annika Noelle for her fine handling of Hope’s utter disdain for her situation. And thank you to the writers for FINALLY allowing Hope to put Liam on full blast for the mess that he has made. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
