There’s nothing like a mother’s love, as viewers are reminded on The Bold and the Beautiful, given Hope’s attachment to little Douglas.
But is Hope’s connection to the little boy “mothering” or “smothering?” Soap Hub posed this question to B&B fans. Read on for the results.
Mommy Hope
Most of you, nearly 90%, feel that yes, Hope is a little too connected to Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri). It’s not that he doesn’t need a mom, but is Hope really the right person to step into a parental role in his life?
Let’s look at the other candidates in Douglas’s orbit. He’s got his aunt Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). She loves her nephew and would do a great job raising him. There’s also Douglas’s great-step-grandmother Quinn (Rena Sofer).
She did a fine job raising upstanding Wyatt, but we have a feeling that if Quinn tried to raise Douglas, Hope would become more obsessed with him!
The best reason for Hope to walk away from Douglas is so she won’t interact any longer with his controlling dad, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). Fans doubt that they’ve seen the last of Thomas, so even if Hope takes custody of Douglas, Thomas may just come back into her life. And she needs to be away from him!
M Is For The Many Things
The rest of you, a little over 10%, feel that, yes, Hope should have custody of Douglas. Liam (Scott Clifton), the man Hope is with, was the cousin of Douglas’s late mom, Caroline (Linsey Godfrey), so there’s a familial tie.
Douglas, living with Hope and Liam, will give baby Beth a live-in big brother and him a surrogate baby sister. Douglas reunited Beth with her parents, so it’s only fitting that he continues to help watch over her and make sure she’s safe.
All this is up for grabs once viewers learn Thomas’s fate. Has he gone to that great soap in the sky, or is he still around, ready to try to get Hope back in his clutches? Stay tuned to find out.
