Soap fans cheered when news of The Young and the Restless‘s four-year renewal was announced recently. However, The Bold and the Beautiful devotees started wondering about their favorite show. Casey Kasprzyk, B&B’s supervising producer, cleared the air on what’s happening during a BOLD Live episode.
“Before I bring Tanner [Novlan, Finn] on, I will say there was other news this week,” Kasprzyk opened the show’s YouTube talk show by saying. “I will say there was some other news this week and I just want to briefly clear that up.”
He’s talking about Y&R’s new deal, which will keep the hour-long soap on CBS for an additional four years. Kasprzyk congratulated the folks at B&B’s sister show on their renewal and noted that there were reports that B&B got a one-year pickup. The producer pointed out that B&B is currently in the third year of a three-year deal that was already in place.
“The truth is we’re two different shows with two different contracts, two different deals,” he says. “So next year will be when we negotiate for a brand new contract. We are currently on a deal that gives us one more year…. We love being on CBS and we couldn’t be happier.
“We’ll have more news next year,” he concluded, “and hopefully, we’re here for a very, very long time.” Later this month, B&B will celebrate its 37th anniversary. The show debuted on March 23, 1987.
The families from the show’s early days — the Forresters, the Logans, and the Spencers — remain at the forefront of the drama. Original cast members John McCook and Katherine Kelly Lang are still driving the story as, respectively, Eric Forrester and Brooke Logan. Bradley Bell is B&B’s executive producer and head writer. B&B has won three Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series. The trio of consecutive victories began in 2009.
