The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony is just a few weeks away. Now, Soap Hub has learned who is going to be hosting the annual awards fest which honors daytime television’s best and brightest.
Entertainment Tonight hosts Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner are going to host the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. A press release from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which administers the Daytime Emmys, reads: “Frazier is a journalist, producer and entrepreneur who has interviewed Hollywood’s biggest stars and traveled the world covering exclusive stories. Turner, who made television history in 2021 as the first Black woman to host Entertainment Tonight, is an award-winning journalist and regular contributor to CNN. Together, Frazier and Turner are the first Black duo to host an entertainment news show.”
Frazier and Turner have first-hand experience with what it’s like to be on a soap opera. In 2020, Frazier appeared as the character Nat on The Bold and the Beautiful. Turner appeared on The Young and the Restless in 2019 playing a news anchor.
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, and legal/courtroom programs. All four broadcast daytime dramas — B&B, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, Y&R — and also, peacock series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem are all nominated for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series.
In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime. In addition, in recognition of the marked increase in content and entries for children’s programming, 2022 will mark the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with relevant categories separating from the Daytime Emmys into their own competition and ceremony.
The 49th Annual Daytime Emmys are set to air on Friday, June 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. This will mark the 16th time that CBS has broadcast the awards, more than any other network. The Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmy ceremony will stream live on Saturday, June 18 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT at watch.TheEmmys.tv and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku (full list at apps.theemmys.tv).
