“Excited to announce my new project, Killing Field,” Kanan posted on Instagram, “starring @brucewillisbw and @chadmichaelmurray directed by @jamescullenb produced by @randallemmettfilms #seankanan #cobrakai #cobrakaiseason4 #NoMercy #SweepTheLeg #karatekid #brucewillis #chadmichaelmurray #actorslife #actorslife🎬.”
Kanan, as soap fans recall, made his daytime debut as A.J. on General Hospital. He played that part for five years. He then popped up on Sunset Beach as Jude Cavanaugh. After that soap ended, the actor landed what is widely considered his best daytime part ever — bad boy Deacon Sharpe on BB.
Deacon was the birth father of the late Becky’s (Marissa Tait) son, little Eric, whom Deacon renamed “little Deke.” Deacon wed an innocent Bridget (then, Jennifer Finnigan; now, Ashley Jones). After their marriage hit the skids, Deacon had a passionate fling with Bridget’s mom Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), resulting in the birth of their daughter, Hope (Annika Noelle).
Like other BB characters, Deacon migrated to the Midwest, specifically, Genoa City, Wisconsin, the home of The Young and the Restless. There, Deacon had a fling with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and ended up briefly married to her! Later, Deacon returned to Los Angeles, connected with Quinn but eventually was jailed for trying to kill her.
In between stints as Deacon, Kanan returned to GH for a run as A.J., who didn’t die after all, but then did die after Ava (Maura West) tricked Sonny (Maurice Benard) into fatally shooting him.
Kanan’s the creator of the Daytime Emmy-winning series Studio City in which he stars as soap opera star Sam Stevens. He’s the author of two books — Success Factor X and the upcoming Way of the Cobra.
