Brooke and Ridge made Hope’s head spin during the Tuesday, January 30, episode of The Bold and the Beautiful. They each had something to say about Thomas and Hope’s almost engagement. Will the fact that they feel so differently about a Thomas and Hope union eventually cause damage to their own?
Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) has been anti-Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Hope (Annika Noelle) from day one and for a long time her feelings were validated. So now that she knows about Hope wearing Thomas’s ring on her necklace, Brooke’s gone ballistic. She ferociously plead with her daughter to end this madness now. She felt Hope deserved so much more, that she wouldn’t be happy with Thomas.
As for Hope, she wanted, no needed her mom to understand a few facts. First, Thomas was a changed man. He’s done the work to move on and learn from his dark, stormy, and obsessive past. Second, his love for Hope? It’s fierce and unconditional, and only directed towards her. With him, there won’t be any waffling. And three, her feelings for Thomas were genuine — she cares for him. That was the point she was really trying to get across to her mom.
When Brooke confronted Thomas, she tried a different approach. Obviously, she communicated that she didn’t know what he was thinking. In addition, she came at him from an angle of caring for his well being. That she worried he was setting himself up for heartbreak. She insisted that her daughter could never, ever give him the exact life he wants.
As for Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), his mind was more open to a Thomas and Hope wedding. In fact, when he talked to his son about the proposal, he was infinitely more accepting of Thomas’s decision to propose. On top of that, he said he was proud of Thomas and that even though Brooke hated the idea of Thomas and Hope, she wouldn’t stand in the way.
Later, Ridge again expressed his acceptance for the Thomas and Hope relationship. At the cabin, he told Hope that even though he once lost faith in Thomas, he has seen him do the work. And now he hoped that Hope will be his daughter-in-law one day. While this put Hope’s mind at ease, she couldn’t help but think about her mother’s unrelenting opposition.
Is Ridge right? Would Brooke just grin and bear it through a worst-case scenario where her daughter married Thomas? Even though, in the past, he’s hurt Hope and the family in very deep, dark ways? Obviously, Brooke won’t ever truly believe Thomas has changed. Would she go the extra mile and cook up a plan to stop Thomas from marrying Hope should she accept Thomas’s proposal?
If so, then look for turbulent waters ahead for Brooke and Ridge who are intending to get remarried. Will they be able to keep their differing opinions on Thomas and Hope from affecting their relationship? Or will it damage their connection?
