The Gates Could Be Opening for B&B’s Obba Babatundé

Obba Babatundé took to social media to recall his Daytime Emmy win in 2016 for his role as Julius Avant on Bold and the Beautiful. He also shared an interaction with Michele Val Jean, former writer of B&B and General Hospital, who is bringing The Gates, a new soap opera, to life for CBS. Could these two end up working together again?

The Bold and the Babatundé

In 2016, Babatundé was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the category of Guest Performer in a Drama Series alongside his TV wife, Anna Maria Horsford (Vivienne), Adam Leadbeater (Dr. Seth Malcom, Days of Our Lives), Frank Runyeon (Angel, Young and the Restless), and Dee Wallace (Patricia, General Hospital).

“Tis the season and I am reminded of how 8 years ago today I was recognized for my work on ⁦[B&B],” Babatundé shared on X, formerly Twitter, “and I am just as proud today as I was the evening, I took this photo.”

“That was a great night,” Val Jean posted along with two heart emojis. “Yes,” Babatundé responded, “and you were there and now together we have a chance to once again make magic.”

Obba Babatundé is likely referencing that Val Jean is creating a whole new canvas of characters for a new soap opera. The Gates, scheduled to debut in January 2025, is set to focus on a wealthy Black family living in a gated community. Babatundé’s Julius initially responded negatively to his daughter Maya (Karla Mosley) being transgender. The actor last appeared on B&B in 2020 and told Zende (now, Delon de Metz) that he was still considered a member of the Avant clan even though he and Nicole (Reign Edwards) had ended their marriage.
