Bold and the Beautiful Star Rebecca Budig Says Taylor’s Broken Heart Syndrome Isn’t Her Craziest Storyline

The Bold and the Beautiful character Taylor was recently diagnosed with Broken Heart Syndrome. Although the writers are making it into a dramatic storyline, fans have criticized it. However, Rebecca Budig is defending her character’s story arc.

Broken Heart Syndrome Is Real

When Taylor returned, it was obvious she was keeping a secret, and it was that she was dying of heart failure. After confessing her illness to Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), he convinced her to get a second opinion. A visit to Grace (Cassandra Creech) revealed that Taylor didn’t have heart failure but Broken Heart Syndrome. Although it sounds made up, Broken Heart Syndrome is a real condition brought on by stressful situations, something Budig learned firsthand.

“I wasn’t familiar with it,” the actress told Michael Fairman TV. “But I know someone who has had a broken heart and has had a lot of symptoms similar to what my character’s going through, not that she was formally diagnosed, but I do think that it is a real thing.”

Even Crazier

As for the criticism of the storyline, Budig says, “I’ve done a lot of things (storylines) over the years. This is not as crazy as some of the things I’ve done.”

Budig’s previous soap opera roles include Hayden on General Hospital, Greenlee on All My Children, and Michelle on Guiding Light. Some of her former characters’ crimes include bribery, blackmail, attempted murder, and smuggling drugs, a stark comparison to Taylor.

Although not as crazy as past storylines, Taylor’s Broken Heart Syndrome storyline is dramatic. The writers are using Taylor’s diagnosis to tease a possible Tridge reunion. Worried about Taylor’s health, Ridge spends more time with his ex-wife, angering Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang).

The last thing Taylor needs is to fight with Brooke, but one argument could land Taylor in the hospital, with Ridge at her bedside.
