It was a shock for many who follow the world of soaps on Monday when it was revealed that iconic actress Andrea Evans had passed away from cancer over the weekend on July 9. Now tributes are starting to come in for the beloved star.
Longtime One Life to Live co-star Erika Slezak, who played her character Tina’s older sister, Victoria Lord, released a statement. “I am absolutely shocked and devastated by this news, and I send love and deepest sympathies to [her husband] Steve and [her daughter] Kylie — they were her whole life,” began Slezak.
“Andrea and I worked together for so long- on her first day at work, she was living 1 block away from me, and I walked her to work. She was just a child- never been to NYC- so sweet and kind and loving- amazing that she played such a complicated, confused, and selfish character so well. When she and Steve got married and then got Kylie, it seemed her life was finally complete. She was so happy. So very very sad.”
General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn, who got her soap start on OLTL, released her statement on her official Twitter account: “I’m so sorry to hear about Andrea Evans. Kim Zimmer, Andrea, and I came to NYC via Chicago per ABC Daytime Television back in the day together. Lovely woman. Donated to Cancer foundation today. We’ve got to fund the hell out these orgs so they can kill cancer and not our friends.”
Passions star Liza Huber (ex-Gwen) paid tribute to her onscreen mother. Evans played Rebecca on the show. “I’m searching for the right words…Searching for the right story to share or the right words to post that would convey how much Andrea Evans meant to me. What a spectacular human she was and what a tremendous impact she had on my life. The truth is, there are no words. I’m heartbroken, and my heart aches for Steve and Kylie. Andrea was a powerhouse. She was a firecracker. She was warm, loving, generous, and wildly funny.
“We would talk for hours about life, family, love, parenting, work,” she added, “and how to find the perfect light on set 🌟 She taught me so much about love and keeping my heart open. That’s when I found [my husband] Alex ❤️ I have a million wonderful memories of this incredible woman. Andrea, I know you are up in heaven watching over your beautiful family illuminated by the most perfectly radiant light 💫You are a superstar in every way and will be greatly missed.”
GH executive producer Frank Valentini, who used to do the same job on OLTL, also paid tribute to the star. “I am so sorry to learn of Andrea Evans’ passing,” Valentini posted. “Andrea was already a huge star when my career began at OLTL. She was always kind, gracious, and so fun to work with. A daytime legend who will be missed very much. My sympathies to her friends and family.”
Like Huber, Adrienne Frantz also calls Evans her TV Mom. She was brought on to play Tawny, Amber’s mother, on Bold and the Beautiful. “Heartbroken! Andrea was my tv mom but became my mom!” Frantz posted on Twitter. “I will miss her beautiful infectious positivity! I was blessed by this beautiful soul! I hope you are enjoying the Disneyland of the sky! Save a seat for me on Winnie the Pooh! I will forever love you Mom!”
B&B social media influencer Matt Hanvey paid tribute to her role on that show. “Tawny was such a hoot!🤣 RIP to the iconic Andrea Evans 💜
The official B&B Twitter said the following, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of Andrea Evans. She will forever be a part of the Bold and Beautiful family. 💙”
Y&R’s official Twitter, where she played Patty Williams, also paid tribute. “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Andrea Evans. Her memory will live on in our hearts.”
McKenzie Westmore, who played Sheridan on Passions, shared the following on her official social media: “RIP Andrea Evans! My heart is broken.”
Fellow Passions castmate and current Days of our Lives star Eric Martsolf (ex-Ethan; Brady) wrote on Facebook, “We lost Andrea Evans. She was wildly responsible for showing me that working in Daytime doesn’t have to feel like work at all. I will miss the sparkle in her eyes when she smiled, which was seemingly all the time. Rest in peace Andrea, and thank you for all you gave.”
