Well, we thought Li, played by Naomi Matsuda, settled the issue of Luna’s paternity once and for all by conducting a DNA test in Bill’s living room on The Bold and the Beautiful. We’ve since learned that Tom, played by Clint Howard, is claiming to be Luna’s pop. Soap Hub chatted with Matsuda at the Daytime Emmys last month to get the scoop on just what might be going on here.
Father’s Daze
Here at Soap Hub, we’ve seen lots of twists and turns with soaps, but Tom being so sure he’s Luna’s dad threw us for a loop! We saw Li conduct the DNA test, right? Even before Tom’s proclamation that he was Luna’s pop, Soap Hub raised an eyebrow over Li — who isn’t terribly fond of her sister Poppy — being the one to determine who her niece’s dad is.
First off, we asked Matsuda if Li should lose her medical license for conducting a DNA test in less-than-ideal conditions! “Don’t you dare say that!” laughed the actress, who loves playing her doctor character.
Given that Li’s hardly objective when it comes to Poppy (Romy Park), we floated the theory by her that perhaps Li only said that Bill (Don Diamont) was Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) dad so that Poppy would have a greater fall late.
Matsuda’s lips are sealed. She shook her head no at us asking if this theory was news to her and shook her head yes, agreeing that it’d be great if another twist was on the way regarding Bill and Luna. “Wouldn’t that be a good twist for everyone?” Matsuda rhetorically suggested.
One thing that Matsuda would like to see is more face-to-face interactions with Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), which she recently had at Il Giardino restaurant. “We need [them] together!” the actress says.
For now, at least, Bill and Poppy are bonded — perhaps forever if he is indeed Luna’s dad. “Is it forever?” Naomi Matsuda shrugs. “What’s forever? That’s all I’m going to say!”
