Nope, she’s not hosting Saturday Night Live (yet) but Kim Matula, formerly Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful, has got some exciting SNL-related news to share. She’s been cast as one of the show’s legendary original “Not Ready For Prime Time Players.”

Kim Matula: The (Jane) Curtin Goes Up

According to Deadline, Matula has been cast as two-time Primetime Emmy-winner Jane Curtin (Kate and Allie; 3rd Rock From the Sun) in SNL 1975. The feature will be directed by Jason Reitman and is based on the backstage accounts of what went on behind the scenes at the sketch/variety show that continues to air on NBC. Matula is joined by Ella Hunt, who will bring the late, great Gilda Radner to life, and Emily Fairn, who has been cast as Laraine Newman.

Matula didn’t have much to chuckle about during her years as Hope, but she flexed her comedic muscles in the short-lived Fox comedy LA to Vegas. She also appeared in UnREAL on Lifetime and the film Fighting With My Family.

Curtin’s legendary SNL characters included Prymatt Conehead and Enid Looper. She performed spot-on impersonations of Anita Bryant, Ann Landers, Betty Ford, and Joan Crawford. As an anchor of “Weekend Update,” Curtin grew exasperated each time Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna veered off topic during her commentaries.

“It is with an abundance of elation and gratitude that I share this,” Matula posted on her Instagram account, which you can see above. Her B&B pals weighed in with congratulatory messages. “This is cool af. Jane Curtain is a freaking comedic genius,” wrote B&B supporter Matt Hanvey, known for his hilarious social media send-ups of the show he loves.

“Congrats. Can’t wait to watch!” says Rena Sofer (ex-Quinn; Lois, General Hospital). Cynthia Popp, producer/director, B&B, enthused, “Fantastic!!! YESSSSSS!!!” Other well-wishers included Matula’s former TV mom Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter), and Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa, Days of our Lives). Soap Hub also extends kudos to Matula as she takes on this iconic role.
