Here’s How Fans Really Feel About Taylor’s Broken Heart Syndrome On Bold and the Beautiful

Taylor returned to Los Angeles to reveal that she was dying from heart failure. She fell ill on The Bold and the Beautiful, and Ridge tried to save her life. He encouraged her to get a second opinion. Fans reacted to the new diagnosis they could see coming. 

Broken Heart Syndrome

Dr. Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) didn’t want her family to know about her failing health. She was certain that she was dying from heart failure. She got the grim test results while in Europe. 

Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) was there for Taylor when she collapsed. She told him that she was fine and that she only fainted. Eventually, the truth came out, and Taylor told Ridge about her failing health. Ridge didn’t believe that Taylor was dying since she was still full of life. 

He urged her to get a second opinion. The two met with Dr. Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech). She conducted a series of tests. She noticed that Taylor’s health and heart were normal. She determined that Taylor was dying from broken heart syndrome.  

According to the Cleveland Clinic, takotsubo cardiomyopathy is the official term for broken heart syndrome. It’s categorized as a weakness in the heart muscle that occurs after an emotionally traumatic experience. Broken heart syndrome is a real condition. 

Reactions

However, B&B fans couldn’t believe this was Taylor’s new diagnosis. Most of them took to X, formerly Twitter, to react. Fans weren’t quite convinced that Taylor’s diagnosis was real or great for the show or character. 

“Broken Heart Syndrome??? GET OUTTA HERE writers, LOL!” one fan wrote. “So the one trick pony, Taylor, is feigning to have a terminal illness — broken heart syndrome — to win Ridge,” another user mused.

It’s possible that Taylor has broken heart syndrome. But she could use this to her advantage. She could use her new diagnosis to get closer to Ridge. He would have no choice but to end his relationship with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang). This diagnosis could also ruin Taylor’s chances at a friendship with Brooke.

Another fan wrote, “I’m aware broken heart syndrome is a real condition but that doesn’t make Bradley any less unserious. We all know what the ‘cure’ to Taylor’s condition will be. She deserves better than this. #BoldandBeautiful”

Another viewer had a suggestion for how Taylor could heal from the illness. “Taylor is only getting Ridge back off of Brooke because of this ridiculous broken heart syndrome which sounds more like it’s all in her head/a mental health crisis. Maybe she should see a shrink and get over it #BoldandBeautiful”

Another person shared her family’s real-life experience with the syndrome. “BoldandBeautiful broken heart syndrome is a real thing. My great-grandmother passed away and like a day later, so did my great-grandfather. they had the caskets back-to-back. Ridge broke Taylor’s heart and he knows he did her dirty”

Another wanted better for the character. “I had a minute to digest it and all I can say is:
WTF, seriously?! You brought Taylor all the way back to give her Broken Heart Syndrome?
She loves him so much that she’s risking her life, because she can’t move on from him?
it’s frustrating as a Taylor fan. BoldandBeautiful”

Others pointed out that this is a true illness, and figured out how it could make sense, given Taylor’s history. “Broken heart syndrome is a real illness… The more I think about it..the more it makes sense given everything Taylor has been through. Taylor gets ridiculed for just breathing. I’m happy for the sl. Taylor has to let Ridge go…so she can get better.

Despite the mixed reaction, this storyline will surely shake up things on the show. Ridge could feel bad for Taylor and marry her out of sympathy. Meanwhile, the spoilers suggest that Brooke will be brought back into Bill’s (Don Diamont) orbit.
