Heather Tom Pitched A Big Bold and the Beautiful Pregnancy Twist

Heather Tom’s character Katie has experienced so much on The Bold and the Beautiful. From her tumultuous relationship with ex-husband Bill to her health issues, she’s faced her share of drama. But one particular storyline wouldn’t have happened without the actress’s persuasion.

A Baby For Katie

In 2012, Tom’s real-life pregnancy left producers and writers in a conundrum. Whenever an actress becomes pregnant, the show either writes her pregnancy into a storyline or hides it. Katie having a baby wasn’t part of the plans for B&B producers then. However, Tom felt it would make a compelling storyline.

In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, the star revealed how she pitched the idea of incorporating her real-life pregnancy into the show. “When I got pregnant many years ago, I went to [Executive Producer/Head Writer] Brad [Bell], and I said, ‘It’s your prerogative, of course, but I think it would be nice if you wrote this pregnancy in,'” she explained. “I think it’s something that, for Katie and Bill [Don Diamont], would be the next step to their trajectory. And thankfully, he agreed.”

As fans might remember, Bill was concerned about Katie’s pregnancy because of her heart problems. Despite the risk, Katie went through with the pregnancy, and everything went smoothly until she went into labor. Katie almost died giving birth to Will, and the experience left her with postpartum depression.

Katie fled town, leaving Will in Bill and Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) care. With Taylor’s (now Rebecca Budig) help, Katie got better and returned home to her family. But during her absence, a romance had blossomed between Bill and Brooke.

Bill’s never-ending feelings for Brooke are one of the issues that plagued his marriage with Katie. Although the couple is divorced, they remain connected because of their son Will (Crew Morrow), who is all grown up. Like many youngsters, Will is plotting to reunite his parents. Now that Poppy (Lisa Yamada) and Luna (Romy Park) are out of the picture, he thinks the couple can get back together.

Can Will reunite Katie and Bill? Or is the couple better off apart?

Whatever happens, Katie is again front and center in a storyline with her two favorite Spencer men.
