The good news is that Luna, played by Lisa Yamada, and RJ, played by Joshua Hoffman, have made love on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, happy couples need conflict if they’re going to stay on the front burner. Yamada talked with Soap Hub about how RJ and Luna got to where they are and what might stand in between them in the future.
Sickness is never a good thing. However, if Eric (John McCook) hadn’t been sick when Luna started her internship, she and RJ might never have bonded the way they did. “Luna feels that she and RJ were catapulted into this romance,” Yamada tells Soap Hub. “They were each other’s shoulder to cry on; she was there for him when he was upset about his grandfather’s illness. RJ leaned on her. That sparked the romance.”
Conversely, RJ was there for Luna as she dealt with familial conflict between her mom (Poppy, Romy Park) and aunt (Li, Naomi Matsuda) were at odds. “These struggles kickstarted their romance,” Yamada offers.
There are two potential obstacles headed toward RJ and Luna’s relationship. There’s the issue of her paternity. Could Luna’s dad be Bill (Don Diamont), Jack (Ted King), or Finn (Tanner Novlan)? Bill might not take to his daughter dating RJ given his past with the Forresters. Li would be apoplectic (rightfully so!) to learn that Jack had betrayed her again. Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) would be affected if Finn were the dad. So would Finn!
“We have theories amongst the actors,” Yamada says about who’s going to win the Daddy sweepstakes. “We’ll say, ‘Did you read that script?’ and ‘Did you see what this character said?’ We’re passing around theories, which is cool — but I really don’t know who Luna’s father is.”
The actress says it’s a win/win no matter who her character’s pop is. “Everyone on the show is so amazing,” she says. “I would be happy with whoever my [TV] father is — whether it’s someone already on the canvas or someone new.”
The other obstacle these two are looking at is Zende’s (Delon de Metz) continued resentment towards RJ and how that might play out. Sure, RJ and Luna have fashion in common, but his interest in design, as viewers have seen, is relatively new. Zende and Luna have a longer connection to that world.
“Luna can sympathize with Zende [feeling alienated] because she knows what it’s like to be pushed to the side,” the actress says. “They do have a [longer interest] in fashion. It’s possible that they could create a connection over that.”
One thing’s for sure — Luna definitely knows that Zende has some issues. “She’s very much aware of the tension that’s going on,” Yamada says. “It’s a difficult situation for Luna to navigate. She doesn’t want to overstep. Yes, she’s RJ’s girlfriend but she’s also working for [his family]. Right now, she’s handling things pretty well. Let’s see if she continues to do so.”
