For the second episode in a row, Brooke and Ridge ended the half-hour appreciating each other as they kissed against the beautiful backdrop of the South of France. But then the mystery woman popped up again. From afar, she watched Bridge bask in the success of Brooke’s Bedroom line. Suddenly, in the Tuesday, August 6 episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, an official voice interrupted saying: “The role of Dr. Taylor Hayes is now being played by Rebecca Budig.” There’s a new Taylor in town. Taking on the role is one of daytime’s most recognizable faces.
This week, the mystery woman who spied on Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) was none other than Dr. Taylor Hayes, Ridge’s ex-wife and the mother of Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). She’s also Brooke’s nemesis, her longtime rival for Ridge.
In a casting shocker, Rebecca Budig steps into the role after the character has been off the canvas for roughly eight months. Krista Allen and Hunter Tylo previously played this pivotal role.
The return of Dr. Taylor Hayes is much needed since there’s plenty of family drama going on at Forrester Creations, where a Forrester versus Logan war is brewing. Lately, the conflict between Hope and Steffy has escalated. And the casualties just might be Steffy’s marriage and Hope’s fashion line, Hope for the Future.
Plus, Brooke and Ridge, who haven’t remarried, are happier than ever. They are riding high on the recent social media success of Brooke’s Bedroom line. So, Taylor coming back to Los Angeles might hurt that relationship, especially if Brooke and Ridge take their daughters’ sides in their various battles.
As for Budig, she’s no stranger to soaps, having appeared in major roles on Guiding Light and All My Children. Her taking over Taylor means she won’t return to General Hospital anytime soon. That’s where she played Violet’s mom, Hayden Barnes. With Michael Easton recently leaving GH, Violet might have needed her mom. Actually, this is a reunion between Budig and Thorsten Kaye, who both worked on AMC as Greenlee Smythe and Zach Slater, respectively.
Earlier today, Budig and @boldandbeautifulcbs posted about the news and featured a clip of the big moment from today’s episode. “Momma’s 🥹 coming 🥹 home 🥹. We’re thrilled to welcome @rbjobud to the #BoldandBeautiful family 💙
#SoapOpera #DaytimeDrama #Drama #TVShow“
“Momma’s coming home,” is what Budig’s Taylor Hayes told daughter Steffy when they talked on the phone.
Now that Taylor’s back in action, some questions pop up: Will she try to reconnect with Ridge? Is this the beginning of a new Brooke/Taylor tug-of-war with Ridge in the middle? Does this mean Thomas’s stint in Paris, France, is about to end? Will Taylor have both of her children back in the fold? And where has she been the last few months? Hanging with Thomas?
So, what do you think of this recast? Are you happy that Budig is back on CBS? Are you happy that Taylor has finally returned? Let us know in the comments.
